BUSALO-FMC

Zambia

Jessica grew up in Newberg and graduated from George Fox University. In 2009 she moved to rural Zambia to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Three years later God asked her to stay in Zambia and work with children. She moved to the town of Mansa Zambia where she currently lives with her three rescue dogs, two crazy cats, and an ever growing flock of chickens.

Jessica is the founder of Busalo. Busalo means “to choose” to love all people. It has grown from helping to children pay for school to building and opening a preschool, feeding program for vulnerable families, assistance for widows and elderly, and tailoring training for young women.

In 2019 Jessica was ordained as an Elder in the Oregon Conference. She has helped plant multiple Free Methodist Churches in Zambia and is organizing a new Annual Conference. She collaborates with the Zambian General Conference Leaders and is the Director of Development and International Relationships for the Free Methodist Church in Zambia. Jessica loves the opportunity to combine her love of God, love of people, and love of building to assist rural communities build church buildings and encouraging young leaders.

Good News International

Rwanda

Their mission: To serve survivors of the 1994 genocide and other vulnerable people groups in Rwanda through organized economical projects, healing community groups, and spiritual leadership.

Relationship: In 2013, Northside Community Church sent its first group to Kigali, Rwanda to visit a missionary family. During this visit Northside established three key relationships: a Free Methodist child sponsorship program particularly at a primary school in Mbabe, Rwanda, with Free Methodist pastors, and with genocide survivors through the work of Good News International under the leadership of Ben Kayumba. Teams visited again in 2016, 2018, and 2019, hand-delivering sponsor gifts to children at Mbabe school, facilitating pastoral training and encouragement, and visiting several community groups of survivors to offer spiritual fellowship and financial support.
