Our Core Values
The Core Values of Northside reflect what is truly important to us as a church community; the never-changing definition of who we are and what we stand for. These are not values that change from time to time, situation to situation, or person to person, but rather they are the foundation of our community culture. Our core values transcend our size and circumstances, and are what makes Northside such a dynamic community to be a part of. These core values are the ‘soul’ of our community.
Your leaders are committed to not just knowing the core values, but having the courage to act on them. Our Core Values will help guide each of us as we seek to obediently follow and fulfill God’s vision and mission as a church community. Our Core Values are our non-negotiables, the essentials of our community culture, and we are committed to keeping these at the heart of everything we do.
Worship
We believe that humans are wired, created to worship, and by this nature will worship - or idolize or show to devotion to - almost anything that is before us in life. Our choice is to worship the Lord Jesus Christ, and in choosing this, we believe the Scriptures guide our understanding of what worship is, what it looks like, who it is directed at, and how it transforms every aspect of our lives. Worship is a lifestyle; it is an act of sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2); it is something we are instructed to offer "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:4) and is rooted in love, gratitude, relationship, sacrifice and service.
Scripture, not human wisdom is the final authority for what we believe and how we live. It is the basis for our instruction and is at the core of all we seek to do as a church. We are committed to relevant Biblical teaching and preaching, believing God changes lives through the power of His Word. We believe that the Bible is the true infallible word of God, which cleanses our souls. It holds the words of eternal life and the keys of the kingdom of God. The Bible shows us God’s principles and standards for living; and it’s the food that sustains us in all circumstances. (John 1:14, 2 Timothy 3:16, 17, 1 John 2:5, 6)
Community
Community starts with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. John 14 says that community starts with a relationship with Jesus Christ and that we have been invited into eternal relationship already existent between Him and the Father. The church is then called to be a unique community of people who are radically committed to one another because of their common commitment to Jesus Christ. We express this commitment by holding one another accountable to the teachings of Christ. We function as a body of believers encouraging one another to fight the good fight.
The purpose of being empowered by the Holy Spirit, worship, God’s word, prayer, community and training is to fine tune us as we seek to meet the urgent needs of others. (Titus 3:14)
Jesus’ ministry flowed out of His compassion. It was this compassion which caused Him to give sight to the blind (Matthew 20:29-34) and to feed the multitudes (Mark 8:1-8). Our call is to minister mercy and compassion to the lost, the sick, the broken and the poor.
We believe in the priesthood of all believers, each person being a minister where all Christians perform ministry (service) that extends the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:9)
